Mosquito-borne arboviruses in Uganda: history, transmission and burden

چکیده
Mosquito-transmitted arboviruses constitute a large proportion of emerging infectious diseases that are both public health problem and threat to animal populations. Many such viruses were identified in East Africa, region where they remain important from new may emerge. We set out describe review the relevant mosquito-borne have been specifically Uganda. focused on discovery, burden, mode transmission, hosts clinical manifestation those previously involved disease outbreaks. Mosquito Immunity against Arboviruses
Arthropod-borne viruses (arboviruses) pose a significant threat to global health, causing human disease with increasing geographic range and severity. The recent availability of the genome sequences of medically important mosquito species has kick-started investigations into the molecular basis of how mosquito vectors control arbovirus infection. Here, we discuss recent findings concerning the ...
متن کاملAgent-Based Modeling and Simulation of Mosquito-Borne Disease Transmission
Mosquito-borne diseases, such as chikungunya, dengue, and malaria, are re-emerging and expanding to new and formerly unaffected places, leading to a need for models which can track their evolution and thus help with public policy and epidemiological studies. Such diseases’ evolution is driven by the interactions between hosts and vectors, and is thus heavily dependent on factors like host and v...
متن کاملNon-Vector Transmission of Dengue and Other Mosquito-Borne Flaviviruses¶
A number of mosquito-borne viruses in the family Flaviviridae, genus Flavivirus, cause significant illnesses in humans. These diseases include dengue, yellow fever, West Nile fever, Japanese encephalitis, St. Louis encephalitis and Murray Valley encephalitis. The viruses cause syndromes that can be generally classified as one of three types: haemorrhagic fever, fever with rash and arthralgia, a...
متن کاملSpatial Heterogeneity, Host Movement and Mosquito-Borne Disease Transmission
Mosquito-borne diseases are a global health priority disproportionately affecting low-income populations in tropical and sub-tropical countries. These pathogens live in mosquitoes and hosts that interact in spatially heterogeneous environments where hosts move between regions of varying transmission intensity. Although there is increasing interest in the implications of spatial processes for mo...

maps are outcomes of models of disease transmission based on spatial and temporal data. These models incorporate , to varying degrees, epidemiological, entomological, climatic and environmental information. New data sources such as remote sensing, and tools for computerized mapping [geographical information systems (GIS)] and for quantitative analysis of spatial data 1 provide unprecedented amo...
